Kim Ki-hoon earns $4 million a year as a teacher in South Korea, says the Wall Street Journal.
While shocking at first, it becomes less so the more you learn about how he does it.
First, he’s not working in the public school system. He works in the private after-school tutoring system where there’s no tenure and teachers are paid on performance. (I know, imagine that!)
Second, he has a national brand and a staff of thirty people. It wasn’t clear if $4 million was his gross income or his net. Even if it’s net, I’m sure he’s doing at least 10x better than most teachers.
Third, he works hard – sixty hours a week. But he’s not paid by the hour. Only three of those hours are spent teaching. “He spends most of his week responding to students’ online requests for help, developing lesson plans and writing accompanying textbooks and workbooks.”
This last part stood out for me because that’s the model I’ve taken in my Plenty of Clients program.
First, we cut out all the distractions and teach you only the critical 10% of marketing savvy you really need to know. It’s nice to be focused on a few things that add up, rather than many things that keep you going in circles.
Next my PoC students do the exercises, implement what they learn and post it in my private Oasis Forums for help and feedback.
A big chunk of my time is dedicated towards giving them feedback both in the Oasis and on live calls. It takes time to give meaningful, specific feedback.
Which is why it’s so rare in the coaching world.
About as rare as a teacher making $4 million a year.
But it’s this personal attention that students in my Plenty of Clients program consistently point to when asked how the PoC is different from other coaching and training they’ve been through.
It’s also why I’m picky about who I let into the PoC program. Unlike Mr. Kim, I have no desire to hire 30 people to work with me.
But I do want to work with the coaches, consultants and other experts who implement. Because it’s only the students who act on what they learn who come back with success stories.
If you’re a consultant, coach or experts of some other kind, and you don’t yet have a steady, consistent, predictable flow of ideal clients, I’ll soon be accepting a handful of additional students into the PoC program.
Why just a handful? Because of the personal attention, of course.
