Walking into my regular coffee shop this morning, I saw Jonathan, another regular, reading a copy of “Mastery” by Robert Greene.
“Oh, I just finished listening to the audiobook,” I said. “Excellent book. Did you read his other books?”
Nope. This was Jonathan’s first Robert Greene book.
My first was “The 48 Laws of Power,” a book that cleared a great cloud of naiveté from around my then young shoulders.
I learned, for example, that there really are people out there who will smile to your face and stick a knife in your back.
People who will do anything to get ahead, no matter what the cost to others.
And it does no one any good to treat these, eh, gentlemen as if they are in fact gentlemen.
Some people understand only force. And cunning. And you need to be able to spot those types early. Walk with eyes wide open. Be wise, not wishful.
His latest book “Mastery” disproves another mass naiveté afflicting many in our society today:
“My success should come easy. And if it doesn’t come easy, there must be something wrong with me.”
No. Quite the contrary. Those people you see around you who accomplish with ease fall into one of two categories:
1. They work really hard and have been working really hard for many years. Enduring disappointment, frustration, setbacks and more. Only you don’t see it the way you see their success.
2. They’re lucky. And trying to emulate them is a sucker’s game.
When new clients enroll in my Plenty of Clients Implementation Program and they meet the others in the program they are always blown away by the amazing people I’m privileged to call clients.
Why?
Because I deliberately work to attract high quality people as clients.
How?
By never promising something that can’t be achieved. By talking about how it’s gonna be work. And if you’re afraid to work, I’m not the one for you.
Sure, we do aim for quick wins. And most clients achieve quick wins while building long term success. But for some it takes a bit longer.
Why?
Because I work with coaches, consultants and experts who want to master the skills that ensure they always have their own steady, consistent predictable flow ideal clients.
And as Robert Greene teaches, mastery takes time and hard work.
If you are also enchanted by the idea of mastery and not afraid of hard work, go here and request one of the handful of “Consistent Flow of Clients” strategy sessions I’ll be giving away in the next few weeks.
