The Simple Secrets of Gordian Knot Management

How to Strike at the Root, While Everyone Hacks at the Leaves

Dear Fellow Entrepreneur:

Can you relate to this letter from “Richard,” owner of a growing small business?

Hi Dov,

As my business has grown, it’s become increasingly more complex.  With more products, more customers, more projects and more employees I spend less and less time on the parts I love the most – which are the very same parts that no one else can do.  And naturally, they’re what gives us our advantage.

As you might guess, I’m constantly reacting to the needs of my employees, which leaves me no time to step back and — think.  On many days, it’s overwhelming.

Too often I’m on the phone with customers myself.  I guess it’s important work, but if I don’t find a better way to do this, we’re not going to get anywhere.

Today, most of our good ideas are mine.  And then I need to push them.  I want to be able to step back and feel confident that my employees will come forward with great ideas and they will run with them until complete.  Pushing drains me.

You know that I’m not afraid of hard work.  It’s good for you.  BUT I want to work hard on the things I love and less on the details that should be handled by my employees – or not done at all.

Also, I want to balance my hard work with “intense” relaxation.  I want to be able to go away with my family for a few weeks and be comfortable and confident that my business is running just fine while I’m out of reach.

Then there’s the time management thing.  I’ve been through it, and I saw a small improvement.  But not nearly as much as I hoped.  I’m convinced that there must be something more fundamental, more subtle, that I’m missing.  And I’m frustrated because I can’t see what it is.

The fact is, what I DO see clearly is that the success I’ve had so far is actually going to cause me a setback if I don’t figure this out.  Fast.”

–“Richard”

Like you and I, Richard was too smart to believe in magic pill solutions. AND he was experienced enough to look for small points of high leverage. That’s why he came to me.

Are you also looking for points of high leverage? Not silly gimmics that promise you quick results for no work. I mean REAL points of leverage that you can apply now and see results in 60 minutes?

Do you ever feel like an artist, desperate to answer the call from deep within you to build a business that stands as a monument to everything you love, enjoy and believe in - but instead you spend most of your time mixing paints?

If you're smart enough and experienced enough to know that our minds work against us; that we tend to overcomplicate what could really be simple; that most people walk right past simple solutions because they're not exciting enough... If you know all this and you have decided to make your business a monument to simplicity, discipline, courage and, yes, art... watch this video from the series on "The Simple Secrets of Gordian Knot Management."

Then run down and register for Chapter 2, 3 and 4 - all coming soon.

Here you go, Chapter 1 of “Secrets of Gordian Knot Management”
